As more couples decide to remain in their current house, minor renovations can prepare their home for aging in place. This project renovated an existing guest bathroom on the main floor of a multi-level house, to offer the couple the option of making this their primary bathroom in the future. An existing adjacent guest bedroom would be converted to the primary bedroom and a new pocket door connects the two rooms.

An existing bathtub was replaced with a zero threshold shower. Grab bars were included for current and future use. As an added safety feature, the shower can be turned on with a valve just inside the sliding shower door that is on the opposite wall from the shower head. Because the length of the room was increased 2 feet, the existing pedestal sink was replaced with a full vanity.
